Welcome to the Freaking Nomads Newsletter, your weekly dose of stories, insights, tools, and opportunities for digital nomads and remote workers building a life without borders.
Hey Freaking Nomads,
So I bought an evil eye a month ago.
I walked into a little shop in Greece and saw an entire wall of those blue glass things staring back at me.
It’s a whole thing across Greece, Turkey and Italy, meant to reflect other people's envy back at them.
Something in my brain said that I needed one. So, now it's clipped to my backpack. I have no idea what I believe about it. But it's there.

A bunch of bigger charms outside the shop, too!
It got me thinking how weirdly superstitious I've become since I started nomading.
I never used to be like this. But somewhere along the way I picked up this thing where I have to touch the outside of the plane before I board. Just a quick tap by the door as I step on.
I think the longer you do this lifestyle, the more little rituals you quietly collect. Not because you've gone soft in the head (at least I hope!), but because so much of nomad life is out of your hands.
The flight gets delayed. The apartment's nothing like the photos. You're improvising constantly, in places where you don't speak the language and don't know the rules.
And a tiny ritual is just a way of saying “okay, this one small thing, I've got control over”
I used to think being superstitious meant you were a bit gullible. Now I think it just means you've been humbled enough times to hedge your bets 😅
Anyway. My eye is on my bag, my hand's gonna tap the plane on my next flight, and I've made peace with all of it.
What's your travel superstition? Hit reply and tell me. I promise I won't judge. After all, I bought a piece of glass just because it looked at me 🧿
